The president-elect of the prestigious debating society has been ousted from office after losing a vote of confidence that followed his controversial online comments about Charlie Kirk.

The vote against the student leader achieved the required two-thirds threshold to oust him from his position, according to an statement from the organization.

Contentious Posts

The dispute began after the student reportedly shared messages on social media that appeared to celebrate the death of the American conservative figure, who was fatally shot while speaking at a university in the United States.

According to sources, one Instagram post reportedly read "Charlie Kirk got shot loool" - using an elongated version of the acronym for 'laughing out loud'.

The student leader is also reported to have posted in a messaging group with fellow students appearing to welcome the incident.

Election Results

The vote of confidence was conducted over the weekend, with outcomes revealed on this week.

Official notices indicated that 1,228 ballots were cast in favor of no confidence, while 501 were opposed the motion.

The notice confirmed that the future president was considered to have resigned in accordance with the society's regulations.

Election Controversies

Proceedings were temporarily halted early on the previous day after the election official was allegedly subjected to "obstruction, intimidation, and unwarranted hostility" from several representatives.

In a response, the student claimed that the count had been halted because election administrators believed "no legitimate and true result could be reached as a result of procedural failures".

His response categorically refuted that any representative acting for the student had engaged in intimidating or disruptive behavior.

Continuing Controversy

The president-elect maintained that extremely serious issues had been referred to the disciplinary committee and that he remained the elected leader.

His comment added that he was "grateful and honored to have the support of significantly more than half of university members" who voted to have a "safe election and resist attempts to subvert democracy".

Opponents have argued that any failure to remove him would "demonstrate internationally that the society has prioritized politics over principles".

External Reactions

On Friday, Mikey McCoy presented an open letter to the society on a related program broadcast.

The letter accused the society of becoming a place where "presidents of the union publicly celebrate the killing of a political opponent".

The communication indicated that if the student were to keep his position, Kirk's allies would "personally contact every U.S. political figure who has ever spoken at the society and advise them against future participation".

The society had earlier criticized Mr Abaraonye's remarks after the activist's killing and confirmed that complaints submitted about him had been referred for official review.

The student leader had been one of multiple members to debate with Kirk at the union in May.
