Has Pizza Peaked? Domino's Pizza CEO Steps Down Following Shift Into Fried Chicken.

A chief executive of Domino's Pizza Group who indicated the United Kingdom might have reached peak pizza while diversifying the chain into fried chicken has been replaced after tensions with its board.

Leadership Change

Rennie is exiting after a brief tenure in the top role, and will be replaced on an temporary basis by the organization's operations head, Frampton, while Domino's searches for a long-term chief.

The outgoing executive, who was with the company for a substantial period, had attempted to redirect Britain's leading pizza takeaway chain towards chicken offerings, stating earlier this month there was not “significant expansion” left in the pizza sector in the UK. He said poultry was the fastest-growing protein in the globe.

Governance Tensions

It is understood that there was friction between the CEO and the directors over his approach and management style, although Domino's official statement said he was leaving “by mutual agreement”.

Recent Brand Launch

In September, Domino's introduced its Chick 'N' Dip offering – which Rennie referred to as a “major strategic shift” for the company – and is piloting it in over 200 locations in the north-west of England and Northern Ireland.

While the company is still intending to launch it across its extensive network in 2026 as planned, it views fried chicken as an addition to its main pizza offerings.

Leadership Statement

Bull, the Domino's chair, commented: “We are confident that there are a range of possibilities to drive further growth and performance improvement in Domino's core business. We are focused on finding the ideal CEO to lead the disciplined execution of that development approach.”

Industry Difficulties

Recently, the pizza delivery giant, which has millions of users in the British Isles, said transactions declined by one and a half percent in the third quarter. In the summer, it warned that the food delivery sector had “grown more challenging” as it attributed economic uncertainty in the lead-up to the government announcement and increasing labor expenses for weaker-than-expected sales and a 15 percent decline in six-month income.

Rival chains are also struggling. Another major chain disclosed the closing of 68 restaurants a month ago, after the business behind its British operations entered insolvency.

Health Initiatives

Trying to keep up with customer preferences towards healthier eating, the company has introduced lower-calorie options, such as its light base line of bakes below 400 kcal as well as meat-free and allergy-friendly options. A large pepperoni pizza has 2,311 calories. A large cheese and tomato pizza has 2,171, while a small has under 1,000 calories.

Interim Management

Frampton has been with the company since the recent past, and previously worked for the gaming group William Hill. It is understood that she does not want to take on the CEO position on a full-time basis.

She commented: “We have a multiple current growth and efficiency programs that we will be concentrating on implementing at speed.”

She added these involved ongoing development on the organization's procurement system and menu innovation, and its rewards program.

The pizza chain is also without a permanent chief financial officer until March 16, when Andy Andrea comes aboard from the beverage producer a well-known firm. For now, Snow acts as interim finance chief.
